Same hours as your team
Latin America and the Caribbean overlap the US working day, so a failed nightly job gets looked at at the start of your morning, with you.
Checked on your tools
SSIS, Informatica, Talend, Azure Data Factory, AWS Glue, dbt or custom Python. We screen each candidate against the tools you name.
Replacement guarantee

Trusted by teams that hire with us
-
LATAM has been a gold mine for talent. Our CloudTask hires understand our company culture and mission, and they connect with our customers in a way that drives high NPS and CX scores.
David Barrett CEO, Expensify -
At first we were an SF-based team only. Then I met Amir Reiter back in 2018. After visiting Medellín, I knew LATAM would be key to our growth and success.
Tim Zheng CEO, Apollo.io -
After meeting my CX and CS team in Medellín, we immediately loved the culture and the work ethic. As a European-HQ company, we found LATAM to be perfect to service our American clients.

SKILLS
Top capabilities to look for in an ETL developer
ETL work is judged by one thing: the right data, in the right place, on time, every time the job runs.
-
Strong SQL
Writing and tuning the queries that do most of the transformation work, including incremental loads, merges and slowly changing dimensions.
-
Your ETL platform
Fluent in the tool you run, whether SSIS, Informatica, Talend, Azure Data Factory, AWS Glue or a code first stack with Python and dbt.
-
Source to target mapping
Documenting where each field comes from, how it is transformed and where it lands, so anyone can trace a number back to its source.
-
Validation and reconciliation
Row counts, totals and checks against the source after each load, so errors are caught by the job and not by a report reader.
-
Scheduling and recovery
Dependencies, retries, restartable jobs and alerts, so a failure at night is handled cleanly instead of loading half the data twice.
-
Performance tuning
Shortening load windows with partitioning, bulk loads and incremental logic as volumes grow.
-
Migrations to the cloud
Moving legacy on premise jobs to cloud warehouses and cloud native tools without breaking the reports that depend on them.
-
AI where it saves a step
Drafting mappings, SQL and documentation faster, always reviewed and tested before anything goes into a production job.
HIRING GUIDE
How to hire an ETL developer
People searching for ETL services usually need someone to build and run their data loads. This guide covers what an ETL developer does, how the role differs from a data engineer, when you should not hire one, and what to check before you do.
What does an ETL developer do?
ETL stands for extract, transform and load. An ETL developer builds the jobs that pull data from source systems, reshape it to fit a target model, and load it into a warehouse, a data mart or another application.
Day to day, that means writing and maintaining mappings, scheduling jobs, validating the results against the source, and fixing loads that fail when a source changes. Much of the job is keeping existing flows reliable, not only building new ones.
ETL developer or data engineer?
The roles overlap. An ETL developer usually specializes in building and running data loads, often on a dedicated ETL platform. A data engineer usually owns a wider scope: the warehouse, the models, the orchestration and the data platform as a whole.
If your need is a steady flow of integrations and loads on a tool you already run, an ETL developer fits. If you are designing or rebuilding the platform itself, look at a data engineer instead.
When should you not hire a dedicated ETL developer?
When your sources are standard SaaS tools that a managed connector already supports. Paying for a connector is often simpler than paying a person to rebuild what it already does.
It is also the wrong hire when the work is a single migration with a clear end date. A fixed-scope project with a firm or a contractor may fit better than a full-time role.
What are the most common ETL tools?
On the enterprise side, Informatica, Microsoft SSIS, Talend and Oracle Data Integrator have run ETL for many years. In the cloud, Azure Data Factory, AWS Glue and Google Cloud Dataflow are common, along with managed connectors and dbt for transformation inside the warehouse.
Hire for the tool you run today. A developer who knows your platform deeply ships faster than a generalist, and if you plan a migration, put both platforms in the brief.
What should I check in the interview?
Give a small, real task: two source extracts that do not quite agree and a target table to load. Look at how the candidate maps the fields, handles the mismatches and proves the load is complete.
Then ask what happens if the job fails halfway through. A good answer covers restartability, avoiding duplicate rows and how the team is told, not only the fix.
Red flags in ETL developer candidates
A load with no proof. A candidate who finishes the sample task and calls it done without comparing row counts or totals against the source is leaving the checking to whoever reads the report. Ask them to show you how they know the load is complete.
Mismatches quietly dropped. When the two extracts disagree, watch what happens to the rows that do not fit. Discarding them in silence, or picking one source without saying why, is how numbers stop matching and nobody can explain it.
A rerun that loads twice. Ask what happens if the job fails halfway through. If the answer is to run it again from the start, with no thought about duplicate rows or restartable steps, the first failure at night will load part of your data twice.
A fix nobody hears about. A good answer to a failed job covers how the team is told, not only the fix. A candidate who only talks about the fix will leave you finding out from a report reader.
Mappings that live in their head. Ask how someone else would trace a number back to its source in their last project. If nothing documents where each field comes from and how it is transformed, every question about the data will come back to them.
Will ETL be replaced by AI?
The need to move and reshape data is not going away. AI tools help write mappings, SQL and documentation faster, and a good ETL developer uses them.
What AI does not replace is knowing your sources, your business rules and what a correct load looks like. That judgment is the part of the job you are hiring for.
How much does it cost to hire an ETL developer?
It depends on seniority, the stack, the language requirement and the country the person works from, and any single number describes one scenario and calls it a price.
What is worth understanding is the shape. On Managed Staffing it is one all-in monthly rate per person with payments, compliance and replacement cover inside it. On Direct Hire it is a one-time fee and the person goes on your payroll. We quote your number before you interview anyone.
Why hire an ETL developer in Latin America?
Overlap. Nightly jobs fail while the US sleeps and someone has to look at them first thing. A developer who works your hours can fix the load and confirm the reports are right before the business starts using them.
The second reason is communication. Mappings depend on business rules that have to be agreed in plain language, and your developer works with your team in English every day. We screen that live on a call.
How does CloudTask hire for this role?
You send the tools, the sources and the hours you need covered. We source against that brief and come back with 3 to 5 matched profiles within 48 hours, each one screened on a live call and checked against the tools you named.
You interview and choose. On Managed Staffing we handle payments, compliance and onboarding and stay involved with check-ins. On Direct Hire the person joins your payroll from day one. Both carry a replacement guarantee: 24 months on Managed Staffing, 6 months on Direct Hire.
