How it works

How do I hire a front end developer?

You do one thing: interview. We handle everything else.

1

Post the role

5 minutes. The role, the motion, the tools, the comp band. That is all we need to start.

2

Review your matches

3 to 5 matches in 48 hours.

3

Interview and hire

We coordinate interviews. On Managed Staffing, we also handle payroll and compliance across LATAM.

WHY TEAMS TRUST CLOUDTASK

What you get with every hire

Dedicated to your product

One developer who learns your components, your design system and your users. Not a new freelancer for every screen.

Same hours as your designers

Latin America and the Caribbean overlap the US working day, so design reviews and fixes happen the same day they are raised.

Searched against your framework

React, Vue, Angular, TypeScript and your tooling come from your brief, and each profile is checked against them before you see it.

Replacement guarantee

24 months on Managed Staffing, 6 months on Direct Hire. If the fit is wrong, the guarantee covers the replacement search.

SKILLS

Top skills to look for in a front end developer

Anyone can make a screen look right in one browser. These are the skills that keep an interface fast, accessible and easy to change as the product grows.

  • Your framework, in depth

React, Vue or Angular with TypeScript, including state management and the patterns your codebase already uses.

  • Components and design systems

Reusable components that match the design file, documented so the next developer builds with them instead of around them.

  • Accessibility

Keyboard navigation, semantic markup, contrast and screen reader support built in, not patched in after a complaint.

  • Performance

Bundle size, rendering cost and loading strategy measured with real tools, so pages stay fast on ordinary phones and connections.

  • Working with APIs

Handling loading, error and empty states properly, and agreeing contracts with the backend team instead of guessing.

  • Responsive and cross browser

Layouts that hold up from a small phone to a wide monitor, tested in the browsers your users actually run.

  • Testing

Unit and end-to-end tests on the flows that matter, so a change to one screen does not quietly break another.

  • AI as a tool, reviewed

Using coding assistants for scaffolding, tests and first drafts of components, and reviewing every change before it ships.

HIRING GUIDE

How to hire a front end developer

Front end work is where users judge your product. This guide covers what a front end developer does, how the role differs from a website developer, what to test before you hire and when a dedicated hire is not the answer.

What does a front end developer do?

Builds the part of your product that people see and use: screens, forms, navigation and the components behind them. Connects the interface to your APIs and keeps it fast, accessible and consistent with the design.

In practice that means turning design files into working code, reviewing pull requests, fixing interface bugs and working closely with designers, product managers and backend developers every day.

Front end developer or web developer?

A front end developer works on your product: a web application with logged in users, state, permissions and data from your APIs. The stack is usually React, Vue or Angular with TypeScript.

A website developer works on your marketing site: WordPress, Webflow, landing pages and forms. If that is the work, see our web developers page instead.

React, Vue or Angular: which should you hire for?

The one your codebase uses. Frameworks share ideas, but the patterns, libraries and tooling around each are different enough that a developer who already knows yours starts contributing far sooner.

If you are choosing for a new product, weigh how easy it is to hire and maintain over time, not only what looks modern this year. Put the framework and version in the brief.

What should you test in a front end interview?

Give a small task close to your product: a component from a design file that loads data from an API and handles loading, error and empty states. Check how close it is to the design and whether it works with a keyboard.

Then ask them to review a short piece of existing code. How someone reads and critiques code tells you more about how they will work in your team than a puzzle does.

Red flags in front end developer candidates

Only the happy path. If the sample component shows data when the API answers and nothing useful when it is slow, fails or returns nothing, your users will meet those blank screens first. Loading, error and empty states are part of the task, not extras.

Accessibility as an afterthought. Try the component with the keyboard only. A candidate whose work cannot be reached or used without a mouse will leave accessibility to be patched in after a complaint.

Close enough to the design. Put the result next to the design file. Spacing, states and components that drift from it without a reason tell you your designers will spend their reviews repeating themselves.

Building around the design system. A candidate who writes a new one-off component instead of reusing or extending the ones you have will leave you with two versions of everything. Ask how they decide between reusing a component and writing a new one.

Generated code they cannot explain. Ask them to walk through their own solution. If parts came from a coding assistant and they cannot say why those parts work, nobody reviewed them before they reached your codebase.

When should you not hire a dedicated front end developer?

When your product has very little interface, or the interface is a standard admin panel that an off the shelf tool covers. A dedicated person will not have enough to do.

It is also the wrong hire when there is no design direction at all. A front end developer builds interfaces well from a design. Asking one to invent the product experience alone is a design hire, not an engineering one.

Is front end development being replaced by AI?

AI tools generate components and layouts quickly, and a good front end developer uses them. They do not decide what a flow should do when data is missing, make an interface accessible by default or keep a design system consistent across a large product.

The useful question in the interview is how the candidate uses these tools and how they review what the tools produce.

How much does it cost to hire a front end developer?

It depends on seniority, framework, the language requirement and the country the person works from, and any single number describes one scenario and calls it a price.

What is worth understanding is the shape. On Managed Staffing it is one all-in monthly rate per person with payments, compliance and replacement cover inside it. On Direct Hire it is a one-time fee and the person goes on your payroll. We quote your number before you interview anyone.

Why hire a front end developer in Latin America?

Overlap. Front end work runs on quick loops with designers and product managers, and Latin America and the Caribbean share most of the US working day, so feedback and fixes happen the same day.

The second reason is communication. Your developer discusses designs, writes pull request descriptions and joins standups in English, and we screen English live on a call.

How does CloudTask hire for this role?

You send the framework, the kind of work and the hours you need covered. We source against that brief and come back with 3 to 5 matched profiles within 48 hours, each one screened on a live call and checked against the stack you named.

You interview and choose. On Managed Staffing we handle payments, compliance and onboarding and stay involved with check-ins. On Direct Hire the person joins your payroll from day one. Both carry a replacement guarantee: 24 months on Managed Staffing, 6 months on Direct Hire.

FAQ

The fine print, in plain terms.

Is frontend getting replaced by AI?
No. AI tools speed up routine components and tests, but accessibility, interaction design decisions and keeping a large interface consistent still need an experienced developer who reviews what the tools generate.
Is front end development still worth hiring for in 2026?
Yes, if your product has a real interface. The interface is where users decide whether your product works, and a dedicated developer keeps it fast and consistent as features pile up.
What is the difference between a front end developer and a web developer?
A front end developer builds the interface of your product, usually in React, Vue or Angular. A website developer builds and maintains your marketing site on WordPress or Webflow. They are different searches.
How fast can a front end developer start?
You get 3 to 5 matched profiles within 48 hours. After you choose, plan the first week for access, a walkthrough of your components and a small first change that ships.
What is the $299 for?
It starts your search. One time, not a subscription. It applies to your first placement or toward a buyout, so it is not an extra cost, it is the first part of one.
Why is there no number on the monthly rate?
Because it depends on the role, the seniority and the country. We quote the all-in monthly rate per person before you interview, so you know the number before you commit to anyone.
Who is the legal employer?
On Managed Staffing, CloudTask is the contracting party and handles payments and compliance, and you direct the work. On Direct Hire, you employ and manage the hire from day one.
How does tracking work, and can I turn it off?
On Managed Staffing, time and activity tracking is on by default. Talk to us about your setup when you start your search.
What happens if the person does not work out?
Managed Staffing carries a 24-month replacement guarantee, and replacements are not capped. Direct Hire carries a 6-month replacement guarantee: one replacement for the same job description.
Is there a platform or subscription fee?
No. $299 starts your search, one time, and applies toward your first placement. There is no subscription.
