WHY TEAMS TRUST CLOUDTASK
What you get with every hire
Dedicated to your app
One developer who learns your codebase, your users and your release process. Not an agency that hands over the app at launch and moves on.
Same hours as your team
Latin America and the Caribbean overlap the US working day, so a crash report or a rejected build gets handled the same day.
Searched against your platform
Swift, Kotlin, React Native or Flutter come from your brief, and each profile is checked against them before you see it.
Replacement guarantee
24 months on Managed Staffing, 6 months on Direct Hire. If the fit is wrong, the guarantee covers the replacement search.

Trusted by teams that hire with us
-
LATAM has been a gold mine for talent. Our CloudTask hires understand our company culture and mission, and they connect with our customers in a way that drives high NPS and CX scores.
David Barrett CEO, Expensify -
At first we were an SF-based team only. Then I met Amir Reiter back in 2018. After visiting Medellín, I knew LATAM would be key to our growth and success.
Tim Zheng CEO, Apollo.io -
After meeting my CX and CS team in Medellín, we immediately loved the culture and the work ethic. As a European-HQ company, we found LATAM to be perfect to service our American clients.

SKILLS
Top skills to look for in a mobile app developer
Getting an app to run on one phone is the easy part. These are the skills that keep it fast, stable and approved across devices and releases.
-
Your platform, in depth
Swift and SwiftUI for iOS, Kotlin and Jetpack Compose for Android, or React Native or Flutter for both. Deep in the one you run.
-
App store releases
Signing, builds, review guidelines and staged rollouts on the App Store and Google Play, without surprises on release day.
-
Performance and battery
Startup time, smooth scrolling, memory and battery use measured on real devices, including older ones.
-
APIs and offline behavior
Syncing with your backend, handling poor connections and keeping local data consistent when the network drops.
-
Crash reporting and analytics
Crash and error tracking wired in, and the habit of reading it after every release instead of waiting for reviews.
-
Security and privacy
Secure storage, authentication, permissions and the privacy disclosures both stores now require.
-
Mobile UX judgment
Knowing the platform conventions users expect, and pushing back when a design fights them.
-
AI as a tool, reviewed
Using coding assistants for boilerplate, tests and first drafts, and reviewing every change before it goes to the stores.
HIRING GUIDE
How to hire a mobile app developer
An app is never finished at launch: operating systems update, devices change and users expect fixes fast. This guide covers what a mobile developer does, how to choose between native and cross platform, what to test and when a dedicated hire is not the right move.
What does a mobile app developer do?
Builds and maintains your iOS and Android apps: screens, navigation, integration with your backend, offline behavior, notifications and the release process through the App Store and Google Play.
After launch, most of the work is keeping the app current: new operating system versions, new devices, crash fixes, performance and the features your users ask for.
Native iOS, native Android or cross platform?
Native development, with Swift for iOS and Kotlin for Android, gives the best access to each platform and usually the best performance, at the cost of two codebases. Cross platform frameworks such as React Native and Flutter share most of the code between both.
If you already have an app, hire for the stack it is written in. If you are starting out, a cross platform framework is often the practical choice for a small team, unless the app depends heavily on device features or demanding graphics.
How do you hire someone to develop a mobile app?
Decide first whether you are buying a project or building a capability. An agency or a freelancer can deliver a first version. A dedicated developer is the choice when the app is part of your product and will keep changing.
Then write a brief with the platform, the framework, the backend it talks to and the hours you need covered. That brief is what the search is filtered on.
What should you test in a mobile developer interview?
Ask them to walk you through an app they shipped that is live in a store: how releases work, how they handle crashes and what broke after an operating system update.
Then give a small task close to your app: a screen that loads data from an API and behaves sensibly when the connection drops. Watch how they handle loading, errors and the offline case.
Red flags in mobile app developer candidates
Nothing live in a store. A candidate who can show screens but no app that went through store review and stayed there has not yet lived with releases, crashes and updates. Ask them to open an app they shipped and walk you through how it gets released.
Crashes found in the reviews. Ask how they learned about the last crash in their app. If the answer is a user review or a message from support, crash reporting was not wired in, or nobody read it after each release.
No story about an operating system update. Apps that stay in the stores have to keep up with every new version of iOS and Android. A candidate who cannot name what broke after an update, and how they fixed it, has probably not maintained an app past its launch.
The offline case left for later. In the sample task, drop the connection. A screen that hangs, crashes or shows old data as if it were current tells you how the app will behave for your users on a poor network.
Tested on one good phone. Ask which devices they test on. Performance checked only on a recent phone, never on an older one, is how slow startups and battery drain reach your users first.
When should you not hire a dedicated mobile developer?
When you need a single prototype to test an idea and have no plan to keep developing it. A fixed-scope project, or a web app that works on phones, may answer the question faster.
It is also the wrong hire when there is no product owner and no backend to talk to. A mobile developer builds the app. Someone still has to decide what it does and provide the services behind it.
Can ChatGPT build an app for you?
AI tools can generate screens and code quickly, and a good mobile developer uses them. Shipping and maintaining a real app still means handling store review, devices, performance, security and every update that follows.
Use AI to move faster, and hire someone who knows what to do with what it produces.
How much does it cost to hire a mobile app developer?
It depends on seniority, platform, the language requirement and the country the person works from, and any single number describes one scenario and calls it a price.
What is worth understanding is the shape. On Managed Staffing it is one all-in monthly rate per person with payments, compliance and replacement cover inside it. On Direct Hire it is a one-time fee and the person goes on your payroll. We quote your number before you interview anyone.
Why hire a mobile app developer in Latin America?
Overlap. A broken release or a spike in crashes needs a fix the same day, and Latin America and the Caribbean share most of the US working day.
The second reason is communication. Your developer works with product, design and backend in English every day, and we screen English live on a call.
How does CloudTask hire for this role?
You send the platform, the framework and the hours you need covered. We source against that brief and come back with 3 to 5 matched profiles within 48 hours, each one screened on a live call and checked against the stack you named.
You interview and choose. On Managed Staffing we handle payments, compliance and onboarding and stay involved with check-ins. On Direct Hire the person joins your payroll from day one. Both carry a replacement guarantee: 24 months on Managed Staffing, 6 months on Direct Hire.
