LATAM has been a gold mine for talent. Our CloudTask hires understand our company culture and mission, and they connect with our customers in a way that drives high NPS and CX scores.
David Barrett CEO, Expensify -
At first we were an SF-based team only. Then I met Amir Reiter back in 2018. After visiting Medellín, I knew LATAM would be key to our growth and success.
Tim Zheng CEO, Apollo.io -
After meeting my CX and CS team in Medellín, we immediately loved the culture and the work ethic. As a European-HQ company, we found LATAM to be perfect to service our American clients.

SKILLS
Top capabilities to look for in a product designer
A beautiful portfolio shows taste. These are the capabilities that decide whether a product designer improves your product, not only how it looks.
-
Problem framing
Starting from the user problem and the business goal, and asking the questions that decide what to design before opening Figma.
-
User research
Running interviews and usability tests, reading product analytics, and turning what they learn into decisions the team can act on.
-
Flows and interaction design
Designing the whole journey, including empty states, errors and edge cases, not only the screens that look good in a portfolio.
-
Prototyping
Clickable prototypes in Figma or code that are good enough to test with users and to settle arguments inside the team.
-
Design systems
Working inside an existing system, extending it with care, and keeping components consistent with what engineering has built.
-
Handoff to engineering
Specs, states and annotations that developers can build from, and staying involved until what ships matches the design.
-
Explaining decisions
Presenting work to product, engineering and leadership, defending the reasoning and changing course when the evidence says so.
-
AI where it saves a step
Generating early variations, drafting copy and summarizing research notes. Useful for speed, never a substitute for talking to users.
HIRING GUIDE
How to hire product designers
Freelance platforms such as Upwork, Fiverr, Behance and Toptal rank for this search, which makes sense for a one-time project. This guide covers what a product designer does, when a dedicated designer is the better choice, and what to check beyond the portfolio.
What does a product designer do?
Designs how a digital product works: understanding the user problem, mapping the flows, designing the screens and interactions, testing them with users and working with engineers until the feature ships.
The role overlaps with UX and UI design. The difference is scope: a product designer owns outcomes for a part of the product, from the first question to what customers actually use.
Should I hire a freelancer or a dedicated product designer?
A freelancer is the right choice for a defined piece of work with an end: a prototype for fundraising, a landing page, a single feature designed from a clear brief.
A dedicated designer is the right choice when the product keeps changing. Knowing your users, your design system and the decisions already made is the value, and it disappears every time a freelance contract ends.
When should you not hire a dedicated product designer?
When you do not have anyone to build what is designed. A designer without engineering capacity produces files that wait, and the right first hire may be an engineer.
It is also the wrong hire when the need is brand identity or marketing visuals. That is a different skill set, and a brand designer or a studio will serve you better.
Product designer, UX designer or UI designer?
A UX designer focuses on research, structure and flows. A UI designer focuses on the visual layer and the component system. A product designer is expected to cover both and to own the outcome of what ships.
For a small team, a product designer is usually the right first design hire. As the team grows, specialists make more sense.
What are red flags when hiring a designer?
A portfolio with only final screens and no explanation of the problem, the options considered or what happened after launch. Also case studies where the candidate cannot say which parts were their own work.
In the interview, watch for someone who defends every decision on taste alone, or who has never changed a design because of user feedback or data.
What should I check in the interview?
Ask them to walk through one case study in depth: the problem, what they learned from users, the options they dropped and why, and what they would change now.
Then give them a real problem from your product and 45 minutes to talk through how they would approach it. You are looking at how they frame the problem and the questions they ask, not a finished design.
How much does it cost to hire a product designer?
It depends on seniority, the kind of product, the language requirement and the country the person works from, and any single number describes one scenario and calls it a price.
What is worth understanding is the shape. On Managed Staffing it is one all-in monthly rate per person with payments, compliance and replacement cover inside it. On Direct Hire it is a one-time fee and the person goes on your payroll. We quote your number before you interview anyone.
Why hire a product designer in Latin America?
Overlap. Product design happens in conversation with product managers, engineers and users, and Latin America and the Caribbean share most of the US working day, so reviews and user sessions happen live.
The second reason is communication. A designer presents and defends work in English every week, and we screen that live on a call.
How does CloudTask hire for this role?
You send the product, the tools, the kind of design work and the hours you need covered. We source against that brief and come back with 3 to 5 matched profiles within 48 hours, each one screened on a live call and verified against the stack you named.
You interview and choose. On Managed Staffing we handle payments, compliance and onboarding and stay involved with check-ins. On Direct Hire the person joins your payroll from day one. Both carry a replacement guarantee: 24 months on Managed Staffing, 6 months on Direct Hire.
