We coordinate interviews. On Managed Staffing, we also handle payroll and compliance across LATAM.

WHY TEAMS TRUST CLOUDTASK

What you get with every hire

A design with an owner

A dedicated architect who stays through the build. Not a consultant who hands over a diagram and leaves the team to discover what it missed.

Same day as your stakeholders

Latin America and the Caribbean overlap the US working day, so design reviews with engineering, product and clients happen live.

Checked against your stack

Your cloud provider, your core systems and the integrations you run. Each search is sourced against the environment you name.

Replacement guarantee

24 months on Managed Staffing, 6 months on Direct Hire. Architecture decisions cannot wait for a second search, so the guarantee covers the case where the fit is wrong.

SKILLS

Top capabilities to look for in a solutions architect

A certification shows familiarity with a provider's services. These are the capabilities that decide whether the design holds up once real users, real data and a real budget arrive.

  • Requirements discovery

Getting from what the business asks for to what the system has to do: volumes, users, integrations, compliance and the constraints nobody wrote down.

  • System design

Choosing components, data flows and boundaries between services, and knowing when a simple design beats a clever one.

  • Cloud architecture

Designing on AWS, Azure or Google Cloud with a clear view of managed services, their limits and what each choice commits you to.

  • Integration patterns

APIs, events, queues and data syncs between your product, your CRM, your ERP and third-party systems, with failure handled on purpose.

  • Cost and trade-offs

Estimating what a design costs to run and build, and explaining the trade-off between cost, speed and risk to people who have to approve it.

  • Security and compliance by design

Identity, data protection and audit requirements built into the design from the start instead of added after a review fails.

  • Clear documentation

Diagrams and decision records an engineer can build from and a stakeholder can read, kept current as the system changes.

  • AI where it saves a step

Drafting design documents, comparing service options and summarizing vendor documentation. Useful for speed, never a substitute for judgment on trade-offs.

HIRING GUIDE

How to hire a solutions architect

Solutions architect is one of the broadest titles in technology, and most searches for it are about the job or the certification. This guide covers what the role does for a hiring company, how it differs from software and cloud architects, and when you do not need one.

What is a solutions architect?

A solutions architect designs how a business problem will be solved with technology: which systems are involved, how they connect, where the data lives and what it costs to run. The output is a design the engineering team can build and the business can approve.

The role sits between stakeholders and engineers. It spends as much time asking questions and explaining trade-offs as it does drawing diagrams.

Solutions architect, software architect or cloud architect?

A software architect focuses on the internal structure of one application: modules, patterns and code quality. A cloud architect focuses on the infrastructure platform. A solutions architect works across systems, connecting several applications, vendors and data sources to solve one business need.

In small companies one person often covers two of these. Describe the problem in the brief, and see our software architects and cloud engineers pages if one of those fits better.

Does a solutions architect need an AWS certification?

It helps as evidence of familiarity with a provider, and it matters if you are an AWS partner with certification requirements. It does not prove someone can design a system that survives real traffic and a real budget.

Ask for designs they produced and how those systems behaved in production. That tells you more than the certificate.

When should you not hire a dedicated solutions architect?

When you have one product on a standard stack and a senior engineer who already makes the design decisions. A separate architect will add a layer of documents without adding much value.

It is also the wrong hire when the design work is a one-time event, such as choosing a platform for a single migration. A short consulting engagement fits that better. Hire a dedicated architect when design decisions keep coming: new integrations, new clients with their own requirements, or several teams building on shared systems.

Pre-sales or delivery?

At software vendors, solutions architects often work in pre-sales, designing how the product fits a prospect's environment and supporting the sales team on technical calls. At companies building their own systems, the role is about delivery.

These are different profiles. Say which one you need in the brief, because the interview and the search change completely.

What should I test in the interview?

Give a realistic scenario from your business: the systems involved, the volumes and one hard constraint. Ask for a design on a whiteboard and listen to the questions they ask before they draw anything.

Then change a constraint, such as the budget or the deadline, and see how the design moves. A good architect explains what they would give up and why.

Red flags in solutions architect candidates

Drawing before asking. In the scenario, a candidate who goes to the whiteboard before asking about volumes, users and constraints is designing for a problem you did not describe.

A design that does not move. Change the budget or the deadline. If the design stays the same, or they cannot say what they would give up, they will not be able to explain trade-offs to the people who approve them.

The certificate as the portfolio. A candidate who leads with a certification but cannot show a design they produced, and how it behaved in production, has shown familiarity with a provider, not the ability to design for your traffic and your budget.

Integrations that never fail. Ask what happens when one of the connected systems is slow or down. A design where failure is not handled on purpose will find its failure mode in production.

No cost in the design. If they cannot explain what their design costs to build and to run, the first person to find out will be whoever pays the bill.

How much does it cost to hire a solutions architect?

It depends on seniority, the systems and cloud you run, the language requirement and the country the person works from, and any single number describes one scenario and calls it a price.

What is worth understanding is the shape. On Managed Staffing it is one all-in monthly rate per person with payments, compliance and replacement cover inside it. On Direct Hire it is a one-time fee and the person goes on your payroll. We quote your number before you interview anyone.

Why hire a solutions architect in Latin America?

Overlap. Architecture is decided in conversations with engineering, product and clients, and Latin America and the Caribbean share most of the US working day, so those conversations happen live.

The second reason is communication. An architect has to explain trade-offs clearly to technical and non-technical people in English, and we screen that live on a call rather than inferring it from a profile.

How does CloudTask hire for this role?

You send the systems, the kind of design work and the hours you need covered. We source against that brief and come back with 3 to 5 matched profiles within 48 hours, each one screened on a live call and checked against the stack you named.

You interview and choose. On Managed Staffing we handle payments, compliance and onboarding and stay involved with check-ins. On Direct Hire the person joins your payroll from day one. Both carry a replacement guarantee: 24 months on Managed Staffing, 6 months on Direct Hire.

FAQ

The fine print, in plain terms.

What does a solutions architect do?
Designs how a business need will be met with technology: which systems are involved, how they connect, what it costs to run and what the risks are. Then stays involved while engineering builds it.
What is the difference between a solutions architect and a cloud architect?
A cloud architect designs the infrastructure platform. A solutions architect works across systems, connecting applications, vendors and data to solve a specific business problem, often on top of that platform.
Should I require an AWS Certified Solutions Architect?
Only if your partner status or clients require it. The certification shows familiarity with AWS services; designs they have delivered and how those behaved in production tell you more.
How fast can a solutions architect start?
You get 3 to 5 matched profiles within 48 hours. After you choose, plan the first two weeks for a review of your current systems, the open decisions and the people who own them.
What is the $299 for?
It starts your search. One time, not a subscription. It applies to your first placement or toward a buyout, so it is not an extra cost, it is the first part of one.
Why is there no number on the monthly rate?
Because it depends on the role, the seniority and the country. We quote the all-in monthly rate per person before you interview, so you know the number before you commit to anyone.
Who is the legal employer?
On Managed Staffing, CloudTask is the contracting party and handles payments and compliance, and you direct the work. On Direct Hire, you employ and manage the hire from day one.
How does tracking work, and can I turn it off?
On Managed Staffing, time and activity tracking is on by default. Talk to us about your setup when you start your search.
What happens if the person does not work out?
Managed Staffing carries a 24-month replacement guarantee, and replacements are not capped. Direct Hire carries a 6-month replacement guarantee: one replacement for the same job description.
Is there a platform or subscription fee?
No. $299 starts your search, one time, and applies toward your first placement. There is no subscription.
